This title "Seth" is used only for Maheshwaris, just like "Sardar" this title is used only for Sikh people.
Just as Sikh means Sardar, Rajput means Thakur, Maratha means Patil similarly Maheshwari means Seth.
This is 100% true, because at the time of origin of Maheshwari, Lord Maheshji freed the 72 Umraos who were turned into stone due to the curse of the sages and gave them new life and gave them the new name "Maheshwari" and said that you will be called the "Seth" in the world. ... Later on, this excellent word got corrupted and came to be called Seth. That is, Maheshwaris are called "Seth" not on the basis of poverty or wealth but because of the boon given by Lord Maheshji at the time of origin of Maheshwari, because of being superior.
सेठ लगा लेने से नाम, हरगिज न कोई सेठ बने,
माहेश्वरानी की कोख जन्मे, ना कोई और जणे।

"सेठ" यह उपाधि सिर्फ माहेश्वरीयों के लिए प्रयुक्त होती है, वैसे ही जैसे "सरदार" यह उपाधि सिर्फ सिख लोगों के लिए प्रयुक्त होती है।
यह 100% सत्य बात है, क्योंकी माहेश्वरी उत्पत्ति (वंशोत्पत्ति) के समय भगवान महेशजी ने ऋषियों के श्राप से पत्थरवत बने हुए 72 उमरावों को शापमुक्त करके नवजीवन देकर "माहेश्वरी" यह नया नाम देते हुए कहा था की आप जगत में "श्रेष्ठ" कहलाओगे... आगे चलकर इसी श्रेष्ठ शब्द का अपभ्रंश होकर "सेठ" कहा जाने लगा। अर्थात माहेश्वरीयों को "सेठ" गरीबी-अमीरी के आधारपर नहीं बल्कि माहेश्वरी उत्पत्ति के समय भगवान महेशजी द्वारा दिए वरदान के कारन कहा जाता है, श्रेष्ठ होने के कारन कहा जाता है।
